Koh Lanta Old Town

Today we caught a taxi over to Koh Lanta Old Town to explore the famous town on the island that is known for its wooden houses, some of which are built on stilts over the water.

walking along the pier

We started by walking to the end of the pier and spent some time watching locals fishing both in the water and from the pier.

From there, we wandered into the heart of the old town and found one of the wooden restaurants perched on stilts.

The view of the old town from the pier

Nothing beats eating delicious Thai food right next to the water. I ordered a glass noodle salad with seafood which was delicious but seriously spicy. Look how many chilies are in it!

Behind the restaurant there was a lovely swing at the end of the pier which was perfect for photos... although the girls were far more interested in simply playing on it.

We also watched some birds swooping down to catch fish which kept us entertained for a while.

After lunch we browsed the little shops lining the main street and were surprised by how cheap everything was compared to Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

It was only 100 baht for the Chang Beer T shirts that you see everywhere in Thailand and the same shirts were double that price in Bangkok.

We really enjoyed our time in the old town as it offers a great mix of a calm laid back atmosphere, good food and plenty of interesting shops to explore.

The Lazy Lodge, Khlong Khong Beach

The sun going down behind our table

We asked our hotel where they would recommend for a nice dinner on the beach to watch the sun go down for Susie's birthday. They suggested the Lazy Lodge on Khlong Khong Beach, and it was absolutely incredible. Everything was perfect, from the view to the location to the food.

The tables are right by the beach, so the girls had lots of fun playing in the sand while we enjoyed a cocktail and watched the sun go down. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Susie's birthday!
