Batu Caves in KL

Today we spent the morning exploring the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, before using the afternoon to catch up on some much-needed admin - booking a bus in Cambodia, sorting visas, getting a haircut, doing laundry, and helping the kids with their homeschooling.

Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur

I’d forgotten what an incredible place the Batu Caves are! I say that because I’m pretty sure we came here 16 years ago on our honeymoon, although Susie isn’t so sure. I guess that’s part of why I’m writing this daily blog – so we can look back and actually remember where we’ve been.

Batu caves monument

The towering golden statue is absolutely massive and so striking against the limestone cliffs. We started climbing the 272 brightly coloured steps up to the caves. It was a bit of a climb, especially in the heat, but totally worth it once we got to the top. The main temple inside the cave is full of colour and is beautifully ornate.

Inside the cave

There are also monkeys.... lots of monkeys - and they’re everywhere! They’ll steal anything they can get their hands on. We saw one grab a flower out of a lady’s hair, another carrying a bottle of suntan lotion, and plenty more up to mischief.

Monkeys on the steps

Afterwards we headed back down the steps and there were a lot more monkeys but they looked a little aggressive to me so we tried to avoid walking close to them.

We had a quick Look in the shops at the bottom and Jess picked up some earrings, before heading back to the hotel.

Catching up on Admin

The afternoon was mainly spent doing homeschooling with the kids, getting a haircut, and catching up on laundry. The girls said my hair looked exactly the same as it always does.... which I told them was high praise for the hairdresser!

Nu Sentral Mall

For dinner we went to the NU Sentral Mall that is next to our hotel and the food court there. There were plenty of options which usually means the girls go home happy.
