In front of the disney castle

Today was a special day as we took the girls to the Hong Kong Disneyland for the first time.

We aren’t big Disney people, and we really didn’t have any intention of going to the Florida Disneyland, but everything we read about the Hong Kong one was that it was cheaper, smaller, and a lot less busy, so we wouldn’t be spending time queuing for rides.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure whether I would like it or not, but it was absolutely awesome and we all had a magical time.

Hong Kong Disneyland

The queue into the park was only around 15 minutes, and once we got inside we headed straight to the World of Frozen section of the park as we heard that it tends to get busier in the afternoon, and Evelyn was excited to go.

Frozen Ever After Ride

There was no queue at all when we got to the Frozen Ever After ride, and it was incredible! It was the perfect mix - exciting enough to keep older kids and adults entertained, but not too scary for younger ones.

The ride takes you along in a boat as scenes from the movie come to life around you. The attention to detail is incredible, and it almost felt like we had stepped right into Arendelle.

There are a few small drops where we got a little wet, including one that unexpectedly goes backwards, which just added to the surprise and fun.

Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs

After the Frozen Ever After ride, Evelyn wanted to try Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs, since I’d told her it was the tamest roller coaster in the park. Jess wasn’t feeling confident yet, so I sat with her and watched as Susie and Evelyn had a go, although we did all come back as a family and do the ride later in the day.

After that we headed to Mystic Manor, the ride I was most excited to try since it’s said to be the best attraction in the park. Unfortunately, it was closed for maintenance, which was really disappointing.

It's a Small World

It's a small world

Instead we went on the It's a Small World ride. They have a similar ride at all Disney parks, but we enjoyed it as we’ve not experienced it before, plus it definitely had a bit of a Asian twist to it that others don’t have.

Grizzly Gulch Ride

Next up was the Grizzly Gulch ride. We all went on this and it was fantastic, and by far my favourite ride. It was fast and included a backwards section where you dropped from the top of a climb before being shot forward like out of a cannon. Jess wasn't expecting the backwards bit and she got a little scared, but this was the moment we realized Evelyn loves rollercoasters. She ended up going on it a few more times since there was no queue.

Jungle River Cruise

on the riverboat ride

Just before lunch we went on the Jungle River Cruise. It was ok, but the skipper / narrator was so intense it was hard to really appreciate the ride. We would of preferred it if he didn’t say anything lol.

Friendtastic Parade

At 1pm was the Friendtastic Parade, so we made our way back to the main street. It was absolutely incredible, but the sun was scorching hot, so we kept taking turns to dip into the air conditioned shops for a second to cool off. We grabbed a few quick hot dogs and then headed to the Tomorrowland Section of the park.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle

First up was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle, where you ride around in a car with a laser blaster, shooting at targets and racking up points. We went on it twice because Jess was determined to beat my score, but she didn’t!

Hyperspace Mountain

The scariest ride we went on was Hyperspace Mountain, which is a roller coaster that’s almost entirely in the dark, so you feel completely disoriented.

It’s fast and Star Wars themed, and it feels like you’re blasting through the galaxy. Evelyn loved it so much she kept asking to go on again, and Jess finally found her roller coaster legs, and she joined her for all four. They even went on by themselves the last time.

We had a quick go on the Winnie the Pooh ride, mainly because it was one of the only ones we hadn’t tried yet, and then caught the last bit of The Villains’ Carnival at 5 p.m.

We got the girls an Olaf-themed ice cream for the walk back as they had been too busy to get one throughout the day.

It was a wonderful but tiring day. The heat was pretty relentless, but most of the rides were indoors and the queues were shaded, so we got plenty of respite.

We caught the train back to the hotel and spent a relaxing evening by the pool for a couple of hours before our flight to Hanoi tomorrow.

Hong Kong Final Thoughts

We’ve absolutely loved Hong Kong and the hotel we stayed in with the amazing pool was perfect. When we were planning the trip, we thought we might have been fine with just three or four nights, but we’re so glad we stayed for five, and honestly, we kind of wish we had one more. There are still a few things we wanted to do with the girls, which just gives us a reason to come back.
