The Cherry Creek Falls are one of the most convenient waterfalls to visit in Kimberley, and perfect for visiting with young kids or if you’re short on time but still want to get your waterfall fix in.

The short trail to Cherry Creek Falls (if you even want to call it that) leads to a lovely waterfall just a few minutes’ walk from the car park. If you want to stretch your legs a bit more, there’s also a slightly longer loop you can take, but it’s entirely optional.
The trail is easy and kid-friendly, so even little ones can make it to the viewpoint without any trouble.
Cherry Creek Falls is the perfect stop if you’re short on time but still want to enjoy a waterfall, and it’s a great option for families exploring Kimberley.

How to Visit the Cherry Creek Falls in Kimberley
As you enter Cherry Creek Falls Regional Park, you’ll pass an information board, and just a few steps later come to a fork in the path. If you want to head straight to the falls (just a few hundred meters away), take the right fork.
If you’d like to do the Cherry Creek Loop Trail, follow the left fork and it will take you on a short walk through the forest before connecting back to the falls on the right-hand side.
While the loop isn’t particularly spectacular, and doesn't really offer any extra waterfall views, it’s a nice option if you’d like to extend your visit by a few extra minutes, as the direct trail to the falls is quite short.

Once you take the right fork, it’s only a few hundred meters before you reach the wooden railings that have been installed as a safety barrier near the falls.
From here, a set of steps lead you down to the base, where you can get an eye-level view of the water as it cascades over the rocks. It’s a surprisingly peaceful spot, and when we visited on a Sunday morning, we had the entire place to ourselves.

One unexpected thing that happened on our way back to the car was that my dad almost stepped on a snake right on the path!
I didn’t get my phone out in time for a photo, but we’re pretty sure it was a garter snake.
Luckily, they’re harmless to humans, but it's something to keep an eye out for as you walk, since you never know what little surprises you might come across on the trail.
The Cherry Creek Falls - FAQ
Is the Hike Kid-Friendly?
Yes, absolutely! It's one of the best waterfalls to visit in the area if you are travelling with little ones and one of the best things to do in Kimberley with kids.
Having something like a waterfall at the end of the trail makes it extra motivating for children, and mixing up shorter outings like this with longer hikes based on your kids’ mood is a great way to keep them interested in hiking.

Is it Stroller Accessible?
The path is definitely stroller-accessible up to the viewpoint at the top of the falls. However, you won’t be able to take a stroller down the steps to the base - even if you carried it, there isn’t much space at the bottom and the ground is quite rocky.
Is the Hike to the Falls Dog Friendly?
Yes, dogs are allowed on the trail - just make sure to keep them leashed and pick up after them. Unfortunately Ellie was back in Calgary on this occasion.
Are There Any Washrooms or Toilets?
There was a portable toilet at the trailhead when we visited, but apparently it’s seasonal, so it’s best not to count on it always being available.
What Wildlife Might I Encounter?
As mentioned, we came across a snake on the path, which is something we've never seen before! Even though it's a short trail, it's still in bear country, so make sure to carry bear spray with you, and know how to use it.
What to Take With You
Food and Water – Bring lots of water! We recently bought both of our kids Camelbaks so that they can drink on the go and it has been a game changer! Bring plenty of snacks and gummy treats!
First Aid Kit – I always recommend bringing a basic first aid kit in your bag as a precaution. Some of the rocks at the bottom of the falls are a little sharp, so you might end up with a few small scrapes.
Bear Spray – Make sure to carry bear spray, keep it accessible, and know how to use it.

Looking for a hotel?Â
If you want to stay right in town, the Trickle Creek Lodge is a great option with spacious suites, kitchenettes, and a location at the base of the ski hill.
For something in the heart of the Platzl (Kimberley’s pedestrian-only downtown), The Larix Hotel offers modern rooms within walking distance of shops and restaurants. It also has a free breakfast.

Fancy another Waterfall?
If you enjoyed Cherry Creek Falls, you’ll also love Marysville Falls, just a short drive from downtown Kimberley. The trail is also short (less than 1km) and follows a boardwalk through the forest, making it another easy and very kid-friendly outing.
For something a little more adventurous, head to Meachen Creek Falls in St. Mary Valley. It's less visited than the other two but well worth the trip if you don’t mind a bit of a drive on gravel roads.
How About a Lake?
There are plenty of large lakes in this part of BC, such as Wasa Lake, Columbia Lake, and Kootenay Lake, but they are all over an hour’s drive from Kimberley.
If you’d rather stay closer to town, head to St. Mary Lake. It’s one of the most popular summer spots for both locals and visitors, with calm water for paddling, a small beach area, and plenty of space for families to enjoy a warm day.
