The Three Sisters mountains are one of Canmore’s most iconic sights, but the best Three Sisters viewpoint in Canmore isn’t as well known.
That’s partly because it’s not part of the official trail system, so it doesn’t appear in most guidebooks, but it’s still easy to access if you know where to look.
Many visitors and even a few locals don’t realize how simple it is to reach this incredible spot.
I’m always surprised to see people pulled over on the highway snapping photos when there’s a much better view just a few minutes away.
It’s also a great stop if you’re passing through on a Canadian Rockies road trip and want to stretch your legs.
This post will guide you straight to the famous viewpoint so you can enjoy the view for yourself.
What are the Three Sisters?

The Three Sisters are a trio of distinctive mountain peaks just outside Canmore, easily recognizable by their close grouping and jagged profiles.
Each peak has its own name: Big Sister (Faith), Middle Sister (Charity), and Little Sister (Hope).
They’re probably Canmore’s most snapped mountains, showing up everywhere from Instagram feeds to art galleries.
This viewpoint is one of the best places to photograph the Three Sisters. You get a clear view of the peaks, an ever-changing foreground that’s sometimes a reflective pool and other times a dry creek bed, and it’s one of the best places to watch the sunrise in Canmore.

The Three Sisters Viewpoint Trail
This is a short and flat trail, just 1 kilometre round trip, and easy enough for kids and dogs to manage. It’s a quick outing with a big payoff at the end.
To start the trail, head to the Canmore dog park parking area, walk down into the riverbed, and make your way toward the underpass, where you will see three tunnels.

Some people choose to cross the road and enter the riverbed on the other side, but the kids enjoyed going through the tunnels, and the graffiti along the walls made for some fun Instagram photos!
It’s the little things like this that help keep kids engaged on the trail, and it’s one of our top tips for choosing great hikes when you’re heading out as a family.
Lots of people on AllTrails complained about having to cross a busy road with kids, so this way is definitely safer!

Once you’ve passed through the underpass, stay on the path to the left of the creek, especially if there’s any water flowing. The riverbed is quite rocky, so watch your footing to avoid twisting an ankle.

Eventually, you will come to a fork - take the right fork which takes you along a path through the trees before arriving at the viewpoint.

Depending on the time of year you go, the river bed may or may not have water in it, but even when it doesn't, it's still a great viewpoint! It's also an incredible place to watch the sunrise!
