Today we caught the Giant Ibis bus up to Siem Reap, which was surprisingly a very good experience.

The Giant Ibis Bus to Siem Reap

The bus left from next to the Phnom Penh Night Market at 9:50am, and we got there in plenty of time to board. It made two stops along the way - one after about an hour for a quick 10-minute toilet break, and another at 1pm for a 30-minute lunch stop. The ride itself was pretty comfortable, although the driver was a bit ‘overtake happy’ for my liking.

The seats were large with plenty of legroom, the air conditioning worked well, and there was even free Wi-Fi (though the signal was pretty weak). I actually enjoyed having some time to catch up on blog writing while listening to a bit of country music.

Including the 30-minute lunch stop, the trip took around six hours to reach Siem Reap. From there, it was just a 15-minute Tuk Tuk ride to our hotel. We’d forgotten that we had all our luggage with us when we ordered it, but somehow the driver managed to squeeze everything (and us) in!

Us all crammed into a tuk tuk!

The Courtyard Siem Reap Resort

When we arrived at the Courtyard Siem Reap Resort, we found it tucked away just behind the main road, but once we got there, it turned out to be absolutely huge!

It’s admittedly not the most authentic Angkor Wat experience, and we’d usually look for something smaller and more central, but it’s another one of our free stays thanks to points, and it has a great pool, which always keeps the kids happy.

We had a light dinner in the hotel restaurant so we could spent time sorting out our tickets to Angkor Wat tomorrow and planning our day.

my Cambodian stuffed pancakes

I ordered the Banh Chao, which was a thin crepe style pancake that was stuffed with minced pork, shrimp and bean sprouts. It came with a chili and peanut sauce and was great!
