We’ve lived in Calgary for more than a decade, and one of the most common questions we get from visiting friends and family is where to stay.
With so many neighbourhoods and hotel options, it can be hard to know what’s best, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
Whether you’re visiting for business, a road trip, or just passing through, choosing the right place to stay can make all the difference.
We’ve stayed in, visited, and recommended dozens of Calgary hotels over the years.
In this guide, we’ll help you find the best hotel for your trip whether you want luxury downtown, a pool for the kids, something affordable, or a convenient location near an attraction or the airport.

Where Should I Stay in Calgary
Where is the best place to stay in Calgary for you? Your choice of where to stay will depend on the type of trip you are planning, whether it is a quick visit, a mountain getaway, a family holiday, or a budget-conscious stay.
First, here is a bit about Calgary to help you find your way around.
Calgary is divided into four quadrants: northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast, which makes getting around easier. The city follows a simple grid system where avenues run west to east and streets run north to south.
Each address includes a quadrant (NW, NE, SW, SE) to pinpoint its location. For example, 2 Avenue NW and 2 Avenue NE are on opposite sides of Centre Street. Knowing this system makes navigating Calgary much easier.
Some areas like downtown, Kensington, East Village, and the Beltline offer easy access to major attractions and many of the city’s best restaurants, making them ideal for first-time visitors. Hotels near the airport in the northeast quadrant tend to be more affordable but you'll need a car, as it's around a 30 minute drive to downtown.

Luxury Hotels
Not to be confused with Hotel Arts in the heart of downtown, Hotel Arts Kensington is located just steps from the Bow River and a lovely green space with walking paths. The hotel offers stunning views of the downtown skyline across the river and easy access to the city via nearby bridges. It is also close to Kensington’s shops, cafes, and galleries known for their vibrant culture.
The hotel’s modern boutique style fits perfectly with the character of the area. If you want to stay close to the river, city sights, and enjoy a unique neighbourhood atmosphere, this is a great choice.

The Fairmont Palliser is one of Calgary’s most iconic and well-known hotels. It is right in the heart of downtown, next to the Calgary Tower, which is one of our top 40 things to do in Calgary, and close to downtown's main shopping street, restaurants, and other major attractions.
The hotel has elegant rooms, upscale dining, and a long-standing reputation for excellent service. If you are looking to treat yourself, and want to stay central in downtown, this is our top recommendation.

The Le Germain Hotel is another hotel in a fantastic central location, and even closer to the Calgary Tower than the Fairmont (it's across the street).
It’s also right across from Arts Commons, home to the performing arts centre and art gallery, and just around the corner from Stephen Avenue, so you can walk pretty much anywhere downtown from here.
It’s a relatively new hotel, so the rooms are clean, modern, and really well designed. There’s also a fantastic restaurant downstairs (CHARCUT) that’s well worth eating at, even if you’re not staying here, though it’s definitely on the pricey side.

The Dorian (Autograph Collection) – Stylish and art-forward hotel with high-end dining and an upscale vibe on 5th Avenue.

Mid-Range Hotels
Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire is one of my favourite places to stay in the city. We often use our Marriott points for a staycation here. The location is ideal if you want to spend time along the river, with Prince’s Island Park and the Bow River right on your doorstep.
The suites are spacious and comfortable, making it a great choice if you’re looking for a bit more room to relax. One of the highlights is the indoor pool, as it has a great waterslide for the kids.

Alt Hotel is located in Calgary’s East Village just a short walk from downtown. The neighbourhood has seen a big transformation in recent years and now has a great mix of green space, public art, and local shops. It is right across the street from one of my favourite bakeries - Sidewalk Citizen, and close to top attractions like Studio Bell, The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary), and St Patrick’s Island.
The hotel has a modern, minimalist style with clean and comfortable rooms. It is a solid choice if you are after something stylish but low key.

Another hotel located just a stones throw away from the Calgary Tower! The Calgary Marriott Downtown is a classic hotel with comfortable rooms and gym (no pool).
If you want a convenient location with a big hotel feel that still puts you close to everything in downtown , this is a solid choice. Even better if you can use Marriott points to book!

Other Mid-Range Hotels in Calgary
The Westin Calgary – Elegant, well-maintained property near the Bow River and major downtown businesses.
The Hyatt Regency Calgary – Upscale mid-range hotel with refined rooms, an indoor pool, and close proximity to the Olympic Plaza.
Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Downtown – Reliable chain with a modern design, walkable to East Village, Studio Bell, and transit.
Budget-Friendly Hotels
The Sandman is our top budget pick for downtown stays. I've stayed here many times after work events when I worked in downtown, and have had plenty of meetings in their conference spaces.
The location is really convenient, especially if you want easy access to the heart of the city. Plus, the on-site restaurant Moxie’s is a great spot to grab a meal or unwind after a busy day.

Fairfield Inn & Suites is a reliable budget-friendly option in the beltline area of downtown. The hotel offers comfortable rooms with modern amenities and plenty of space, and is close to some really nice restaurants (10th and 17th avenue have plenty of options).
Its also part of the Marriott program, so you can earn or redeem points during your stay, which is a great perk for frequent travelers.
It is one of the few hotels to offer a free hot breakfast, and the indoor pool is a nice bonus for families.

Acclaim Hotel Calgary Airport is our favourite budget pick for stays near the airport. It offers modern, comfortable rooms and a range of amenities that make it easy to relax after a flight or prepare for an early departure.
The hotel features a free 24-hour shuttle to Calgary International Airport, rooftop hot tub, and a fitness centre with Peloton bikes. The on-site Pacini Pasta & Grill makes dining easy and convenient.

Hotel Arts (not to be confused with Hotel Arts Kensington above) is one of Calgary’s most stylish downtown hotels, known for its boutique feel and heated outdoor pool.
We’ve stayed here twice for weddings and loved it both times. The modern rooms are well-designed, and the location in the Beltline puts you close to shops and restaurants.
The pool turns into a bit of a summer hotspot - expect loungers, cocktails, and a place to be seen.

The Deerfoot Inn & Casino is a versatile southeast Calgary hotel that's a solid choice if having a fun pool with a waterslide is a priority. We’ve stayed here on multiple occasions after work events, and even booked the pool to ourselves during COVID.
It’s a spacious, well-run property with a big indoor pool area, waterslide, and casino - so plenty for everyone! The only potential downside to this hotel is it is about a 25 minute drive into downtown, if that's important to you.

The Sheraton Cavalier Calgary Hotel is a favourite for families thanks to its indoor waterpark. The on-site Oasis park has two large waterslides, a main pool, kiddie pool, and hot tubs - perfect for a weekend getaway with kids.

The Best Airport Hotels in Calgary
Calgary Airport Marriott (In-Terminal)
The Calgary Airport Marriott is the only hotel connected directly to Calgary International Airport, making it the most convenient choice if you’re flying in or out. You can walk straight from baggage claim into the hotel lobby with no shuttles or transfers required.
Despite being inside the terminal, the rooms are excellent. There’s also a full-service restaurant, lounge, and indoor pool, which makes it ideal for both short layovers and longer stays.

The Best Hostels in Calgary
HI Calgary City Centre Hostel is Calgary’s most well-known hostel and a solid pick for budget-conscious travellers. The property is clean, centrally located, and walkable to both the CTrain and downtown attractions.
It has dorm-style and private rooms, a shared kitchen, and communal spaces ideal for meeting other travellers. Breakfast is included, and the staff are known for being helpful and friendly.

Best Out-of-Town Options
This is hands-down our favourite place to stay for a quick trip to the mountains. It’s just over an hour from Calgary, but once you’re there, it feels like a true escape from the city. We’ve stayed here plenty of times and keep coming back for the mix of comfort, scenery, and things to do. It’s also where the 2025 G7 was held, which gives you a sense of the stature of the hotel.
The lodge has a cozy mountain feel with updated rooms, and there’s plenty to do to keep everyone busy. There’s a heated outdoor pool, a big outdoor hot tub, and an indoor water park with three waterslides, which is perfect for kids.
You can also book time at the Nordic Spa next door if you want something quieter (adults only). Between the restaurants, the views, and the access to trails right out the door, it’s an easy place to settle in for a weekend.

Azuridge Estate Hotel is a luxurious retreat tucked into the foothills just outside Priddis, which is less than an hour from Calgary but completely removed from the city. It’s set on a private estate with expansive views, upscale service, and a quiet, exclusive atmosphere. The property feels more like a private lodge than a traditional hotel, with just thirteen rooms and a focus on personalized experiences.
Even if you’re not staying overnight, it’s worth visiting for brunch. The on-site Opal Restaurant serves a seasonal menu in a beautiful setting, and weekend brunch is excellent.

Staying at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a bucket-list experience. While it’s definitely expensive, it’s also unforgettable. The hotel sits right on the edge of Lake Louise, with glacier-fed water just steps from the front door and towering peaks in every direction. Staying here lets you enjoy the lake without the crowds, whether it is late at night or early in the morning, which feels especially memorable.
There are several dining options, including a classic afternoon tea, and plenty of seasonal activities from canoeing and hiking to skating and sleigh rides. It’s not a place most people stay often, but if you’re looking to splurge, this is one of the most iconic places to do it.
