Golden Skybridge Suspension Bridge

The Golden Skybridge is just a short drive from the mountain town of Golden and is a 1h 30 drive from Banff, making it an easy stop on any Canadian Rockies road trip.

It's one of the newest adventure parks in British Columbia and home to the two highest suspension bridges in Canada, with the tallest crossing 426 feet above the canyon floor.

If heights make you uneasy, stepping onto the first bridge may feel like a challenge. But the bridges are wide, sturdy, and well maintained - even if convincing yourself of that is a different story.

That said, the Golden Skybridge is not just about the suspension bridges. The park has expanded into a full mountain adventure zone with a zipline, mountain coaster, ropes course, axe throwing, and even a giant canyon swing.

The Golden Skybridge is not the most affordable activity in the Rockies, so this post walks you through everything you need to know, including:

  • what each pass includes

  • which activities are suitable for kids

  • whether the experience is worth the cost for your family

If you’re planning a visit, we recommend booking online to save money and time - this link takes you to the ticket page. We may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and we truly appreciate your support.

The Golden Skybridge

Golden Skybridge
The Golden Skybridge (Upper) - Canada's tallest suspension bridge

The Golden Skybridge is a family friendly adventure park that opened in 2021 and has quickly become one of the most popular attractions in the Canadian Rockies.

The park is centered around two suspension bridges, the highest and second highest in Canada, that span a deep canyon with a waterfall below and mountain views in every direction.

The lower suspension bridge
The Lower Suspension Bridge - is the second tallest in Canada!

The 3 km Canyon Trail is an easy walk through the forest with bridges, viewpoints, and activities along the way - perfect for keeping younger kids moving with something new to see around each corner.

For more ways to keep little ones engaged on the trail, check out our 20 Tips for Hiking with Kids blog post.

The Canyon Trail
The trail to the suspension bridges starts here

Starting near the main entrance, the trail leads to the first and highest bridge, where you’ll cross above the canyon with a view of Hospital Creek far below - if you dare look down.

The bridge does wobble slightly, which I for one wasn't expecting! Our girls were a bit nervous on the first crossing but felt much more confident on the way back. There’s definitely something empowering about facing your fears and stepping out onto a bridge that high!

view of waterfall below the bridge

Once across the first bridge, the trail continues past several of the park’s adventure activities, including the ropes course, zipline, and mountain coaster (more on these later).

From this side of the canyon there are some great viewpoints from various platforms, including the "Touch the Sky" viewpoint that gives the impression you can swing right out over the canyon if the photo is taken right.

There are also benches, interpretive signs, and platforms along the way where you can pause to take in the mountain views of both the Purcell and Rocky ranges.

Once you've finished the activities, you'll need to cross back over the lower bridge to return to the main village, passing the canyon swing, climbing wall and axe throwing stations along the way.

Golden Skybridge Map

As you can see from the map above, the park covers a fairly large area and the activities are spread out across the grounds.

IMPORTANT.

One important thing to keep in mind is that the Railrider Mountain Coaster, Canyon Edge Challenge, and Sky Zipline launch are all located on the other side of the canyon from the main village, meaning that to reach them, you’ll need to cross both suspension bridges as there’s no way to access these three activities without doing so.

What Activities are at the Golden Skybridge?

There’s plenty to do in the park beyond the two suspension bridges. Here’s a quick overview of the other activities available.

Note, to be allowed to do any of the activities below, fully enclosed and secured footwear must be worn.

Railrider Mountain Coaster

Jess on the railrider coaster
The Railrider Mountain Coaster was so much fun!

The Railrider Mountain Coaster is one of the best attractions at the park and was easily our kids' favourite. The track is 1,029 metres long with a total descent of 669 metres.

The ride starts at the bottom where you’re pulled up the hill in your cart before racing back down. The full experience takes about five minutes from start to finish.

A big part of the appeal is that you can control the speed, which makes it a great fit for families with younger kids or adults who are not usually fans of rollercoasters. That said, if you’re up for a thrill, you can let it rip with no brakes required!

Most of the track winds through the trees, but there’s a thrilling stretch that loops out toward the canyon and gives the feeling of riding right over the edge!

Kids aged 9 and up can ride solo as long as they meet the height requirement. Jess is on the smaller side for her age (10) and had no problem. Younger kids need to ride tandem with an adult.

Canyon Edge Challenge Course

The Canyon Edge Ropes Course
The Canyon Edge Challenge Course

The Canyon Edge Challenge Course is a high ropes course with three levels of aerial obstacles suspended up in the trees. It’s similar to the Go Ape courses we’ve done back in the UK, with a mix of swinging bridges, balance beams, and small ziplines.

Despite the name, it’s not actually along the edge of the canyon and is tucked right in the forest. When you arrive, staff will get you set up with a harness and helmet, and then you complete the course on your own.

It’s a fun experience that works well for both adults and adventurous kids.

Sky Zipline Launch

the zipline
The zipline looks like a lot of fun!

The zipline stretches an epic 1,000 feet and sends you soaring 150 metres above the canyon floor. The views from that height are spectacular, and with four parallel lines, a family of four can ride together at the same time.

It is one of the most exciting activities at the park and a great option if you are looking for a bit of adventure.

Giant Canyon Swing

The Giant Canyon Swing
The Launchpad for the Canyon Swing

Did you find the zipline a breeze? Then the Giant Canyon Swing is sure to get your adrenaline going! I can’t think of anything worse myself... but, if you enjoy high-adrenaline rides then this is definitely for you.

It’s kind of like a bungee jump that turns into a giant swing once the rope catches. The great part is you can do it as a tandem, making it a fun experience to share with friends or family.

Key Information:

Included in Main Ricket Entry? No

Included in the following passes: None. Must be purchased separately, either as a solo swing or tandem.

  • Maximum solo participant weight: 120 kg / 265 lbs

  • Maximum tandem combined weight: 181 kg / 400 lbs

Climbing Wall

If you enjoy climbing, you can try the 8.5-metre climbing wall near the main Village. There are easy, moderate, and challenging routes to choose from, and if you make it to the top, you can ring a bell to celebrate.

** we asked whether the climbing wall was included in our coaster pass at the ticket desk, and while we were told that it wasn't, it was added it to our pass for free anyway, so it's worth asking!

Treetop Village Play Park

Treetop Village

Treetop Village is a forest-themed play area designed with younger kids in mind. Set among the trees near the park entrance, it includes rope bridges, climbing nets, treehouses, and mini ziplines.

the village play area

The play area is located close enough to the village area that if your kids are a bit older, they can go off and play while you grab something to eat and relax at the picnic tables.

For families with younger children who aren’t quite ready for the park’s bigger attractions, it’s a fun place to let them experience their own mini adventure.

The food court has a limited selection, but the food is good, with options like burgers and fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, and ice cream. Outside food is not allowed in the park.

If you bring your own bottle, there’s a water bottle refill station available.

If you’re looking for family-friendly tips on how we save money for travel and activities like this, check out our blog post here.

Is it Worth the Money?

Is it worth the money? That really depends on what experience you're after, but it's fair to say that Golden Skybridge isn’t exactly a budget-friendly stop.

On our own trip, we spent close to $250 for our family of four, which covered general admission and the Coaster Pass. If we had gone for the full Adventure Pass, it would have been close to $360. That is a lot of money for a half-day outing, although I do feel that we got value for money.

If you enjoy active, outdoor experiences and aren’t too concerned about the cost, you'll have lots of fun here. If you have kids with tons of energy, I’d highly recommend the Early Riser Adventure Pass for the best value and the flexibility to go on as many rides as you can before 11am.

But if you’re not keen on crossing the suspension bridges or are just after scenic views, there are plenty of stunning and free viewpoints around Golden (and throughout the Rockies) that might be a better fit. Check our some of the hikes we have done in the area to see for yourself!

If your kids are younger and not tall enough for many of the activities, it probably isn’t worth it just for the play areas near the village.

Is the Golden Skybridge Good for Kids?

Jess on the Bridge

Personally, I think the answer really depends on your child’s age and personality.

When visiting the Golden Skybridge with kids, if they are aged five and under they get free entry to the park, but they'll be too young to take part in many of the park’s add on activities. They can ride the coaster as long as they’re at least three years old and meet the height requirement.

Once your kids are over five, you’ll need to pay the children’s entry fee, but they’re also eligible to try everything included in the Adventure Pass, provided they meet the height and weight requirements.

For our girls, I don’t think they would’ve been ready for the zipline at age six - but they definitely would’ve wanted to try the Canyon Edge Course and the coaster. That said, some kids would absolutely love riding the zipline at that age. It really depends on your child.

For older kids who love outdoor activities, the Early Riser Pass is a great option, as it gives you unlimited access to the activities until 11 am.

All in all I think most kids will get a lot out of the experience and have lots of fun!

Golden Skybridge Q&A

How long do you need at the Golden Skybridge?

We recommend setting aside between 2 and 4 hours for your visit, depending on how many activities you want to enjoy.

If you’re only planning to visit the suspension bridges, around 2 hours is enough time to explore the trails, take photos, and have a quick lunch at the Village Grill.

Adding activities like the zipline or spending more time on-site can easily turn your visit into a half-day adventure.

Do I need to book a time for my visit?

With a Bridge Pass, you can visit anytime - even if you book tickets in advance. For an Adventure Pass and the Giant Canyon Swing, you need to reserve an arrival time by booking your tickets online in advance. Plus, you’ll save 10% by pre-booking online instead of buying at the ticket desk.

Is the Golden Skybridge stroller accessible?

Yes, the park is stroller friendly. The main trail between the suspension bridges is wide and made of packed gravel. While there are a few gentle slopes, nothing is too steep.

We saw several families using strollers throughout the park, including on the suspension bridges. It is perfectly safe, though we can see how the height might make some people feel a little uneasy! To be honest, I’m not sure how I would have felt about it back when our kids were in strollers.

Is the Golden Skybridge Dog-friendly?

Dogs are not allowed in the park, but there is an off-leash dog park right next to the main parking lot (see map).

Where is the Golden Skybridge Located? ?

Golden Skybridge is a few minutes east of Golden, BC, just off the Trans-Canada Highway. It makes a convenient stop when travelling between Banff and Revelstoke or heading north from Radium or Invermere.

When is the Golden Skybridge Open?

The Golden Skybridge operates seasonally, open from May through October before closing for winter. In 2025, it will be open from May 2 to October 13.

Do you Need a National Park Pass to Visit the Golden Skybridge?

You do not need a Park Pass to visit the Golden Skybridge, but you do if you plan on stopping in any of the nearby National parks like Banff, Yoho or Revelstoke.

Is the Park Wheelchair Accesible?

Because of the way the Golden Skybridge is set up, it’s not fully wheelchair accessible.

How can I get to the Golden Skybridge?

The easiest way to to self drive and there is lots of parking available. That said, Brewster Sightseeing offers a Golden Adventure experience that provides transportation from Calgary, Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise.

Where are the Washrooms Located?

Washrooms are available at the Village and across the canyon near the Adventure Hub by the ropes course and the coaster.
