The Vinpearl hotel towering above all of the other buildings around it

Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection is a perfect example of one of the things we love about travelling in Southeast Asia: luxury hotels often cost a fraction of what you’d pay in North America.

It's a high-end hotel occupying the upper floors of Vietnam's tallest building and one of the most recognizable landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City. It was also the first Autograph Collection hotel in Vietnam.

We stayed here for three nights in October 2025 during the Vietnam portion of our 100-day family sabbatical, and it ended up being one of our favourite hotel stays in Southeast Asia.

Here's what we loved most:

  1. The pool. An outdoor infinity pool high above the city. It was one of the most memorable pools we experienced during our entire 100-day trip.

  2. The views. We stayed on the 57th floor, and the views over Ho Chi Minh City were spectacular both day and night.

  3. The building itself. Landmark 81 dominates the skyline, towering above everything around it. It is lit up at night and visible from all across the city, and gives the hotel a presence that few properties can match.

The main trade-off is the location. The hotel is located in Binh Thanh rather than the heart of District 1, so you'll likely rely on taxis to reach many of Ho Chi Minh City's top attractions.

If you're looking for a hotel that feels like part of the destination itself, Vinpearl Landmark 81 is hard to beat. Between the views, the infinity pool, and the unique experience of staying in Vietnam's tallest building, this was a property our family won't soon forget.

Vinpearl Landmark 81 Location and Getting There

The Landmark 81 hotel is located at 720A Dien Bien Phu Street, Thanh My Tay Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, in the area most people still know as Binh Thanh.

You'll still see the older address (Ward 22, Binh Thanh District) on some booking sites and maps. It's the same place, as Ho Chi Minh City merged and renamed many of its wards in 2025.

Landmark 81 sits inside Vinhomes Central Park, a riverside development on the Saigon River, roughly 4 km from Ben Thanh Market.

From Tan Son Nhat Airport

Grab is the easiest way to get to the hotel. It took us about 35 minutes from the airport, and cost just over $10 CAD.

The hotel does offer its own airport transfer service, but it's expensive and, for most travellers, unnecessary. A round-trip transfer costs 2 million VND (about $110 CAD) and is limited to a maximum of two passengers. For a family, it's not really practical.

We arrived around 9 p.m. after an hour's delay on our flight from Hanoi, so a quick Grab straight to the hotel was exactly what we needed.

I'm not sure if this was a nightly occurrence or just during our visit, but the building was lit up bright pink and impossible to miss as it towered over the surrounding skyline. With two young girls, it was an instant hit!

Getting Around the City

The hotel is about a 15-minute taxi from District 1, where you'll find the main attractions, such as the War Remnants Museum, the Independence Palace, the Central Post Office and Nguyen Hue Walking Street. We used Grab for everything and never had to wait long.

Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line opened in December 2024, and Tan Cang Station is the closest stop to Landmark 81. It provides a direct connection to Ben Thanh Station in District 1.

The station isn't directly connected to the building, though, so we found Grab much more convenient, especially with two young kids. For the short distances we were travelling, it was usually the easiest option.

How Much Does a Stay Cost?

Cash rates vary considerably depending on the season, day of the week, and local events. When we booked, standard rooms were typically selling for $250-$350 CAD per night, making this one of the pricier Marriott options in Vietnam.

Using Marriott Points

That said, we booked our stay using Marriott Bonvoy points, redeeming 31,000 points per night instead of paying the cash rate, which certainly helped.

Marriott uses dynamic pricing, so the points cost moves with the cash rate. Standard rooms range anywhere from around 20,000 to 45,000 points per night, so it pays to check a few different dates if yours are flexible.

At that redemption rate, we felt we received excellent value from our points. Not only were we staying in a luxury hotel, but we were also staying in Vietnam's tallest building, complete with incredible city views, a fantastic infinity pool, and access to one of the most unique hotel experiences in Ho Chi Minh City.

It delivered some of the best value-for-points we found during our time in Southeast Asia.

Booking for a Family of Four

One of the biggest reasons we chose Vinpearl Landmark 81 was that all four of us could stay in a single room, something that isn't always possible when travelling through Asia.

We had originally considered the Le Méridien Saigon, but they wanted to charge an additional 1 million VND (roughly $50 CAD) per night for our family of four. Vinpearl had no such surcharge, making it a much more economical choice.

We booked a room with two twin beds, and it worked perfectly for our family. Rooms here are available with either one king bed or two twins, so families with two younger children may find the twin configuration works just fine.

We had one parent share each bed with one child, and the beds were fairly spacious. Even after three nights, we never felt cramped or wished we had booked a larger room.

If you need a rollaway, the hotel lists extra beds at around 2 million VND (about $110 CAD) per night, which would wipe out the saving. Cots for babies are free though.

If your kids are older or you'd like more space, the hotel also has connecting family rooms (one king plus one double). These don't always show on Marriott's site, so it's worth emailing the hotel to ask.

Good to Know: If you're a family of four, it's worth confirming occupancy rules before booking hotels in Asia. Not all properties allow four guests in a standard room, which makes Vinpearl Landmark 81 a particularly family-friendly option.

Check-in Experience

The street level entrance to the Vinpearl hotel

The hotel is unique in that you don't check in on the ground floor. You arrive at the street-level entrance, where staff take your bags, and then a lift takes you up to the main lobby on the 48th floor. That's where you check in, and you get a fantastic view overlooking the city.

Note: Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is at 12pm.

The check in area at the hotel

The lobby area is incredibly spacious with views right across the city.

The waiting area in the lobby with amazing views

We were welcomed with a complimentary drink and the girls were invited to relax by the floor-to-ceiling windows while check-in was completed. As a nice surprise, we were also upgraded to a slightly higher-floor room, giving us even better views of the city.

It was a great way to end a long travel day that had started on the sleeper train from Ninh Binh.

The girls enjoying their welcome drink

From the lobby, a second set of lifts takes you to the guest rooms. These are operated by your key card and automatically select your floor, so there are no buttons to press. It's a small touch, but a pretty cool one.

One thing to know: not every lift goes to every floor, so if you're heading to the pool or the restaurant, tap your card and follow the screen to the lift it gives you.

Premier Room with Two Twin Beds

The two twin beds

Our Premier Room was spacious, modern, and beautifully appointed, with comfortable beds, quality furnishings, and a design that felt both luxurious and welcoming.

It was listed at 36 square metres, which is a good size for a city hotel. There was also a small welcome gift of local sweets waiting in the room.

The view from the room at night

The view is the star of the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows run along the wall, and from the 57th floor you can see right across the city and down to the bridge over the Saigon River.

Guest rooms start on the 49th floor, so every room is high up. That said, the lowest floors can have part of the view blocked by the building's outer fins, so it's worth asking for a higher floor when you book.

There's a chair by the window, and that's where Jess and Evelyn ended up most of the time, reading or just watching the city below.

The bathroom has a separate bathtub and shower, which is always a win with kids. It's all marble and felt very fancy.

The toilet and shower area

The bath tub

The only minor disappointment was the coffee. The in-room coffee setup wasn't great, although that seemed to be a common theme at many of the hotels we stayed at throughout Asia.

Thankfully, you're in one of the world's great coffee countries, so finding an excellent cup nearby is never difficult. There are countless cafés within walking distance, and there's even a Starbucks on the ground floor of Landmark 81 if you're looking for something familiar.

Other Room Types

All the standard rooms are the same size, so the difference between them is the view and the perks:

  • Premier Panoramic rooms have wider, corner-style views over the city and river.

  • Club rooms and Club Panoramic rooms add access to the Club Lounge on the 71st floor (see below).

  • The Landmark Panoramic Suite, at 72 square metres, has a king bed only, so it suits couples better than families.

Breakfast and Restaurants

Breakfast wasn't included in our rate, and Marriott Gold status doesn't include it here. Given the relatively high breakfast price, we chose to eat elsewhere instead. With the mall downstairs and the rest of the city just a short Grab ride away, it was an easy decision.

For reference, the breakfast buffet at Oriental Pearl is listed at around 866,000 VND (about $46 CAD) per adult and 433,000 VND (about $23 CAD) per child. That works out at close to $140 CAD a day for a family of four.

The hotel does offer several dining and drinking options if you're looking for a special meal or a drink with a view:

  • Oriental Pearl on the 66th floor is the main restaurant, serving Vietnamese and international dishes with views over the Saigon River. It's also where the breakfast buffet is served.

  • The Cloud on the 48th floor is the lobby lounge and bar, with Vietnamese coffee by day and cocktails in the evening.

In the same building, but not part of the hotel:

  • Blank Lounge on the 75th and 76th floors is the building's best-known sky bar, with spectacular views across Ho Chi Minh City. It's a café by day and a bar at night, and the view is remarkably similar to the one from SkyView (more on that later), all for the price of a drink.

We didn't eat at any of them, but you'll see plenty of people heading up in the lifts dressed for dinner. I'm not sure our flip-flops and shorts would have quite fit the atmosphere!

The Club Lounge (71st Floor)

The hotel's Club Lounge is on the 71st floor, which makes it the highest hotel club lounge in Vietnam. Access comes with Club rooms and suites, and with Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status and above. It covers breakfast in the morning and drinks and food during the evening happy hour.

Marriott Gold, which we have, doesn't include lounge access. If you're Platinum, though, the lounge is the reason many guests rate this hotel so highly, and it can save a family a lot on breakfast.

Vinpearl Landmark 81 Pool, Gym and Spa

The Infinity Pool

The infinity pool at the Vinpearl

The pool was probably the highlight of our stay. The outdoor infinity pool is located on the 47th floor and features a glass edge that provides unobstructed views across the city, including the Saigon Skydeck in the distance.

When we visited, there was barely anyone else around, giving us plenty of space to swim, play with the kids, and soak in the views. It felt more like a private pool than one serving a large hotel.

There's also a pool bar and a collection of sun loungers alongside the pool, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon there.

Access to the pool is included for all hotel guests. It's heated, and it's open daily from 6am to 9pm.

Pro Tip: Go up in the early evening. The pool is open until 9pm, so you can swim as the city lights come on.

The Gym and Spa

The gym

The gym is on the same floor, next to the pool, with city views. It has all the equipment that you would expect from a hotel of this quality, including cardio machines, free weights, as well as weight machines.

It's open 24 hours, and there's also a jacuzzi and a dry sauna. The Horizon Spa & Wellness is also on this floor, with a sauna and steam room.

Vincom Center Landmark 81

The hotel sits right on top of a big shopping mall called Vincom Center Landmark 81, and there is definitely something nice about having an upscale mall attached to the hotel.

We checked in late, so it was nice to be able to pop down to the mall and pick up some food, rather than relying on the expensive hotel restaurants or heading out late at night.

The mall has plenty of food options and shops, including a Uniqlo (always a stop for me), a Starbucks on the ground floor and an ice rink, which is a pretty surprising sight in Ho Chi Minh City.

The ice rink at the bottom of the Vincom Centre Landmark 81

There's also a supermarket and a CGV cinema, both handy for snacks and rainy days. The ice rink is on the B1 level, and tickets are around 195,000 VND (about $10 CAD) on weekdays, with a cheaper rate for kids under 140 cm. It costs more at weekends.

Things to Do Near Vinpearl Landmark 81

Vinhomes Central Park

Vinhomes Grand Park in HCMC

Right next to Landmark 81 is Vinhomes Central Park, a 14-hectare riverside park along the Saigon River. It's free, with lawns, a riverside promenade and two children's playgrounds. It's also the best spot to photograph the tower lit up at night.

It's a good option for an hour outdoors when the kids need to run around. In the middle of the day it can be very hot, though, so early morning or evening works best.

Landmark 81 SkyView Tickets

Right at the top of the building, on floors 79 to 81, is the Landmark 81 SkyView observation deck, the highest viewpoint in Vietnam. You can buy tickets at the counter on the B1 level of the Vincom mall, but booking online in advance is usually easier, and some packages include a VR experience.

Floor 81 has an open-air terrace, SkyTouch, where you're out in the wind at around 380 metres.

If you're staying at the hotel, your room and the 48th-floor lobby already give you a lot of that view, so it's worth weighing up before you buy tickets for the whole family.

In District 1

Ho Chi Minh City

The hotel is outside the main sights, so most of what you'll want to see is a short Grab away in District 1:

  • War Remnants Museum: we visited as part of the girls' homeschooling, and I checked each room first because some of the photos are very graphic.

  • Independence Palace: interesting history, though we found it a bit underwhelming.

  • Central Post Office: still a working post office, and the girls sent a postcard from it.

  • Book Street: bookshops and craft stalls, and several shops give free stamps if you're collecting.

  • Ben Nghe Street Food Market: we loved it so much we went twice.

We also did a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels by Grab, about two hours each way.

For the full story of our first days in the city, see RTW Trip Day #23 and RTW Trip Day #24.

Is Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection Worth It?

For us, it was absolutely worth it.

The pool and the views made it feel really special, and the service was excellent from the moment we walked into the lobby.

We also much preferred Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. Some of that was probably down to being more comfortable in Vietnam by then, but it's a lovely city.

It suits: families using Marriott points, anyone who wants an impressive pool, and first-timers who'd like a bit of luxury.

It's not for: anyone who wants to walk out the door into District 1, or travellers on a tight cash budget.

Final Thoughts

Evelyn by the window looking out at the city at night

Vinpearl Landmark 81 was a last-minute booking for us that turned into one of the highlights of our time in Vietnam.

If we were visiting again and had the Marriott points available, I would book in a heartbeat. If we were paying cash it would depend on the rates, but if you do decide to stay here, you won't be disappointed.
