If you're planning a trip to Toronto and you are looking for a comfortable stay in the heart of the city, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Downtown Toronto is a great option. I have stayed here more times than I can count on work trips, and really like the location, which is just a 5 minute walk to Dundas Square, around the corner from Nathan Square (the famous "Toronto" sign), and has a great choice of places to eat right on the doorstep.
Continue reading this blog post for all the information you need to plan your stay at the Doubletree, including how to get there, dining options, hotel amenities, and plenty of photos!
If you would prefer a hotel a little further out of downtown that is quieter, I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel X. It has one of the best gyms I have ever seen at any hotel, and it even has indoor tennis courts - read more about my stay here.
Where is the DoubleTree by Hilton in Toronto Located?

The DoubleTree by Hilton is located on Chestnut Street in downtown Toronto. It’s right around the corner from Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto City Hall, and the Eaton Centre, making it a convenient base for exploring the city. I often stay here for work and love how many great food options are nearby – just about every type of cuisine is within a five-minute walk.

It's worth noting that is also another Hilton hotel that is located just 5 minutes away on the corner of Richmond Street and University Avenue. I've stayed there as well, but I personally much prefer the Chestnut Street location. Just make sure you don't mix them up!
If you're driving to the hotel, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (or more) depending on traffic – and traffic in Toronto can be brutal. Honestly, if you can avoid driving and take public transit instead, I highly recommend it – your stress levels will thank you. That said, if you do drive, the hotel has a large underground parking garage with 390 spots, including EV charging stations. It's not cheap though, regular self-parking is $45 per day! On one visit, I forgot to register my license plate at the front desk and the fine ended up being less than the daily rate... take that how you will!
If you're arriving from Toronto Pearson Airport, I prefer taking the UP Express to Union Station. From there, you can either walk, grab an Uber, or hop on the TTC subway and ride to St. Patrick Station, where it’s just a short walk to the hotel. If you just want to get a taxi or Uber from the airport – it typically costs around $50-70.
Check in
The hotel has a nice large lobby and the staff at the check in have always been very nice to deal with. The check in desk can sometimes get busy, but they do offer a digital digital key card feature via the Hilton Honors app, which means that you can skip the line completely.
Going straight to your room is great, however, one of the best things about the Doubletree is that they give out free cookies. If you digitally check in, you should call by the check-in desk later to pick them up.

There are lots of elevators so you typically don't have to wait to get to your room. You do have to scan your key in the elevator and it can sometimes be a little temperamental. In addition, there is a small shop selling snacks as well as a computer area. On the mezzanine area there is an amazon collection station if you need to get anything delivered during your stay.

King Bed Room

I've stayed in quite a few different rooms at the Hilton, but I've most commonly stayed in the King Room. Considering the hotel is in downtown Toronto, I think the rooms are quite spacious, and have always been clean and well kept. They are a little tired can could do with updating soon though. Most rooms have nice views over downtown, but the downside of that is that the rooms can be a little noisy - expect to hear the odd police siren.
The rooms include the usual things you would expect like a safe and minifridge. There is a decent coffee maker, and the staff are happy to bring you extra coffee pods if you need them.

The bathrooms are clean and fairly spacious - everything you would expect from this standard of hotel. The Crabtree & Evelyn Shampoo products are great and they offer a plastic free option which I love.

Dining Experience
The hotel has an inhouse restaurant called the Hemispheres Restaurant & Bistro, which serves breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is a fairly standard North American breakfast, and the dinner menu is a mixed international cuisine. The food and service is good, and I find the restaurant handy for when you have just arrived at the hotel and don't want to think about finding somewhere to eat.

That said, in my opinion there are so many good places to eat within a 5 minute walk, you can find much better food, at a better price just down the street.
Pool & Fitness Area
The hotel has a small but adequate pool and fitness area set up. The indoor pool is ok; it's not large enough to really swim lengths but is also kind of boring for kids as there is no slide or any fun features. There are quite a few beds to lounge on around the pool for watching your kids. It does the job I guess.

There is also a fitness centre that overlooks the swimming pool. It has a main section that houses the treadmills and free wights, and a smaller section around the corner that has some exercise bikes. Again, it does the job, but nothing overly special about the fitness equipment.

Summary of our Review of the Hilton Doubletree Downtown Toronto
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Downtown is a great hotel if you value location. There are cheaper places to stay, and definitely more higher end stays available, but I think it offers great value for money and is a solid option, especially if you collect Hilton points and / or are able to redeem a free night.
